Around 1010: Ice Cream Shops
Handel’s makes all of their ice cream in house, and it’s superb. With over 30 flavors, it’s hard to pick just one; our favorites include Chocolate Peanut Butter Brownie, Mint Chocolate Chip and Graham Central Station. One thing to note is that they serve their ice cream by the flavor instead of the scoop. When you order one flavor, you get 2 scoops plus a third little one on top. When this Encinitas location opened, we decided to welcome them by cruising on over to say “hello” in our ice cream-themed gear (Electra Ding-Dong Triple Scoop Bell and Electra Graphic Helmet Soft Serve).
If we want a sweet, frozen treat that isn’t too heavy, we opt for Moonlight Yogurt & Ice. During the warmer seasons [Editor’s note: which let’s be honest… warmer seasons are most of the year], we definitely stop by and top off our froyo with the cookie dough and brownies, which are both made in house! Don’t let the size of this shop fool you, they have much more than just frozen yogurt. They also have acai bowls, Boba and smoothies.
Right across the street, we have JoJo’s… which was started by mother-daughter duo, Jami and Emily. With a passion for ice cream, and the intention of providing job opportunities to teens and young adults, JoJo’s truly has it all. Their classic ice cream flavors are made from organic milk from Straus Family Creamery and their dairy-free and vegan flavors are made from organic coconut milk. The best part, however, is the bite-sized chocolate chip cookie that comes complimentary with every purchase. Yum!
